Professor Ola Hössjer

Suppl Board Member

Professor Ola Hössjer is Professor of Mathematical Statistics at Stockholm University. He has as well been involved in the ID movement for many years. He has co-authored a lot of ID related articles. In 2018, Wipf and Stock published his book Becoming a Christian. It concerns the most important choice in life, how we relate to Jesus Christ. In the book he uses mathematics to extend Blaise Pascal's Wager model. Whether we become Christians or not depends on how we evaluate evidence, and whether we want to become Christians or not.

Mr. Rune Solli

Board Member BioCosmos Africa

Rune Solli is Cand.Mag.  in Analytical Chemistry & IT Technology from University of Agder, Norway. He has a broad experience in IT-technology, systems development and IT operation. He has established and lead the technical team responsible for the operation of Norway’s largest industrial concerns enterprise systems worldwide.

As Compliance Manger in Procurement and Category Manager in Norway’s largest IT-company he has a deep and broad experience in international business management and culture.

Seeking new experience and challenges he is now implementing innovative solutions of cutting-edge IT technology into new areas of health care and medical assistance

His passion for nature is not only academic but also put into practices as a beekeeper. Studying these small creatures making up a complex social network of coordinated work, highly adaptive to different circumstances, never stops to fascinating him. Having a good harvest of different kinds of good honey is a great bonus!

Nature is also explored through numerous private hiking-, kayaking- and canoe expedition in the Northen countries, arctic areas close to the north pole and Alaska.

He is an alumnus of the Discovery Institute, Centre for Science and Culture in Seattle, USA where he is trained in Intelligent Design.

Professor Ola Hössjer

Supplemental Board Member BioCosmos Africa

Ola Hössjer has a passion for the interplay between mathematics and experimental sciences. This is where mathematical statistics comes in. It has two legs, probability theory and statistics. Whereas probability theory provides mathematical rules to set up a scientific model, statistics gives us principles for using these models when experimental data is analyzed. He loves to use these tools in order to formulate mathematical models in biology, physics, and other natural sciences. But mathematics is also very helpful for social sciences, humanities and theology; when we want to study human behaviour, human nature, and also analyze important decisions in life. Since the mathematical language is very powerful and concise, it is one of several other useful tools given to us in order to do science. Ola Hössjer has published papers and supervised 14 PhD students in statistics and stochastic process theory, with applications in genetics, engineering, insurance, and other fields of science. In 2009, I was awarded the Gustafsson prize in mathematics. As a Christian and follower of Jesus Christ, he does research in response to God's mandate to humanity (Genesis 1:28) to administer a world that He so beautifully created. In order to do this, we need to investigate how His Creation functions, and research is a way for me to glorify God. Since we are created in His image, we are given the ability to think God's thoughts after Him. This gives great motivation for conducting science, since we can trust our mental capabilities. Then a life crisis may change our priorities, so that we either re-evaluate evidence or become more positive towards Christianity. Over the years, his research has focused on different aspects of empirical processes, fractal measures, robust statistics, non-parametric methods, spatial statistics, biostatistics, statistical genetics, population genetics, insurance mathematics and signal processing. I like to work in the intersection between inference theory, probability theory and various applications of statistics. Right now, one of my main areas of interest is population genetics, in particular computing the effective size of various populations, using mathematical tools such as coalescence theory and quasi equilibrium. This has implications for conservation biology, and I am cooperating with population geneticists on these topics. I have always liked statistics as the bridge between deductive science (mathematics and logic) and inductive experimental science. For me, much of the beauty of mathematics is revealed when phenomena in different fields of applications are modeled in a succinct and hopefully general way.
